Pandora Graessl: Artist in residence
Past exhibition
Overview
GRAESSL's practice explores the relationship between the human body and mind and the natural world, driven by a deep curiosity for the planet and an interest in ancestral knowledge, rituals and the subconscious.
In April 2025, Studio Lazcano presented the work of Pandora Graessl, a French multidisciplinary artist and photographer born in Switzerland in 1988 and currently based in Mexico City. Her practice explores the relationship between the human body and mind and the natural world, driven by a deep curiosity for the planet and an interest in ancestral knowledge, rituals and the subconscious. With a nomadic spirit and poetic approach, Graessl draws from dreamscapes, spiritual traditions and layered cosmologies to create immersive and multisensory experiences.
Over the years, Graessl has collaborated with major cultural figures and institutions, including Bureau Betak, Management Artists and the Centre Pompidou, and with some of the world's most celebrated fashion houses. Through her studio Graessl Studio (2015), she developed projects for Dior, Helmut Lang, Hood by Air, Yves Saint Laurent and more, working alongside renowned photographers and filmmakers such as Daniel Sannwald, Gaspar Noé and Larry Clark . Her visual language is rich with color, light and sound, leaving viewers with a sense of wonder and an invitation to engage with both their inner and outer worlds. Her artist approach offers an intuitive perspective on the magic of nature and its inherent mysticism. Moving fluidly between photography, sculpture, installation and video, her work often becomes an invitation into liminal spaces-evocative environments that feel both sacred and wild.
Graessl presented pieces that channel the rhythms of the natural world and its symbolic language: elemental altars, organic assemblages, ritualistic videos and still lifes infused with flora, decay, light and shadow. Each work is a meditation on transformation, cycles, and the unseen forces that shape life.
The exhibition at Studio Lazcano offers a unique encounter between space and artistic gesture, a sensory and symbolic journey shaped by Pandora Graessl's vision and the layered history of the building.
